Pelicans' Zion Williamson: Day-to-day with finger injury

Coach Willie Green informed reporters Thursday that New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is listed as day-to-day due to a finger injury on his left hand, with X-rays and scans showing no major concerns. Williamson sat out the final 7:24 of Wednesday night's 117-108 loss to the Orlando Magic due to this injury. He mentioned post-game that he sustained multiple hits to the finger, potentially occurring at 2:25 left in the second quarter when he collided his hand with the side of the backboard while blocking Jalen Suggs' layup attempt.

With six games left in the regular season, the Pelicans are vigorously contending for playoff slots. However, Wednesday night's defeat to the Orlando Magic saw them slip to seventh place in the Western Conference standings. Adding to their woes, Zion Williamson seemed to hurt his hand in the third quarter. Though he briefly went to the locker room, Williamson returned to the game. Coach Willie Green then opted to bench him for the rest of the game after he played some of the fourth quarter.

Currently occupying the seventh spot in the Western Conference standings, the Pelicans are set to face the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. They trail the Dallas Mavericks by just half a game for the fifth position in the West.

When questioned about Williamson's availability for the Spurs game, Green replied,



He's officially listed as questionable.

New Orleans is also contending with injuries to Brandon Ingram (left knee bone contusion) and Jose Alvarado (right oblique strain). Ingram has been absent for seven consecutive games, while Alvarado has missed the last four. Both players are marked as out for Friday's game against the Spurs.
