According to reports from the Atlanta Hawks organization, Trae Young, their star guard who was sidelined due to a finger injury suffered on February 23rd, has been granted clearance to resume practicing following surgery on February 27th.

During the 22-game stretch without Young, the Hawks managed to secure a record of 12 wins and 10 losses. Presently, they find themselves in 10th position in the Eastern Conference standings, boasting a record of 36 wins and 42 losses. This secures them a spot in the upcoming play-in tournament, where they are scheduled to face off against the Chicago Bulls in the 9-10 play-in game. To clinch the eighth seed for the 2024 playoffs, the Hawks will need to emerge victorious in two consecutive play-in games.

Before his injury, Trae Young was a significant force on the court, averaging 26.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 10.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game. His shooting percentages were also impressive, with 42.6% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc, and 85.6% from the free-throw line. Notably, he accumulated 35 double-doubles in 51 starts.

Renowned as one of the top scorers and passers in the NBA, Young solidified his status by signing a lucrative five-year, $215 million contract extension with the Hawks in August 2021. This deal sees him earning $43 million in the upcoming season and $45 million in the 2025-26 season.

Atlanta's journey in the playoffs has been notable, particularly their run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, where they faced the Milwaukee Bucks in a competitive six-game series. However, since then, the Hawks have struggled to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs, aiming to turn the tide in the upcoming postseason.
