Pistons Owner Makes Surprising Statement About GM Troy Weaver
During halftime against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores expressed optimism about the team's future. Gores had previously promised change in December, and the front office delivered with significant roster shake-ups at the trade deadline, parting ways with six players to improve their league-worst NBA record.
The moves included letting go of Alec Burks, Bojan Bogdanovic, Killian Hayes, Danilo Gallinari, Monte Morris, and Kevin Knox II. Earlier in January, the Pistons traded Marvin Bagley III and Isaiah Livers to the Washington Wizards, further restructuring the roster. Gores elaborated on the front office's rationale behind these decisions, as reported by Mike Curtis of The Detroit News."We needed to mix up our formation. We had to let a few of our players go. Good men, Bojan & Burks, they contributed a lot to our Pistons. We just needed to change it up a little bit, create some pace & space for our young guysWe needed to for the sake of our team," he said.
During halftime, Pistons' recent additions like Simon Fontecchio, Troy Brown Jr., and Shake Milton made promising debuts with the team against the Clippers. Gores reiterated his confidence in the franchise's trajectory, as reported by Curtis.
