The Lakers secured a narrow 123-120 victory against the Grizzlies on Saturday night in a closely contested matchup. This win keeps their hopes alive for the 8th seed in the Western Conference, giving them two opportunities in the Play-In round to secure a playoff spot. However, what made this game unique was that it stretched beyond the typical 48-minute regulation time. Due to a clock reset error in the third quarter, the game extended to 49 minutes and 6 seconds. This error occurred when the game clock mistakenly reset from 1 minute and 14 seconds to 2 minutes and 20 seconds after a Grizzlies shot clock violation. Surprisingly, nobody in the arena seemed to notice the extra time until after the game.

With 1:14 left in the third quarter, the Grizzlies committed a shot clock violation. Instead of the expected shot clock buzzer, the scoreboard operators mistakenly reset the shot clock to 24 seconds during the final moments of Memphis' possession. The referees intervened and halted play.

However, when the shot clock reset to 24 seconds for the Lakers' subsequent possession, an unusual occurrence unfolded. The game clock inexplicably leaped from 1:14 to 2:20. Play resumed as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.

The clock error went unnoticed by both the Grizzlies' broadcast on Bally Sports Southwest and the Lakers' telecast on Spectrum SportsNet.

Following the unusual incident, not much action unfolded for the remainder of the quarter. The Lakers managed to outscore the Grizzlies 4–2 in the final 2:20 of play.

Despite the clock mishap, the Lakers emerged victorious against Memphis with a final score of 123–120. This win propelled them ahead of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings in the race for the Western Conference's No. 8 seed.

As of 4 p.m. ET Saturday, the NBA has not addressed the clock error.

Truly, it was a bizarre and unexpected turn of events.
