NBA to investigate 76ers over unusual management of Embiid injury
On Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Philadelphia 76ers welcomed back their All-Star center Joel Embiid to the lineup, bringing them much joy. However, the events leading up to Embiid's return from his late January absence might stir up trouble for the Sixers. According to NBA on TNT's Jared Greenberg, there's an expectation that the NBA will investigate how the Sixers handled the reporting of Embiid's injury.
"I've spoken to multiple people inside the NBA league office, and we should expect some sort of investigation into how the Sixers handled the injury report, going from out, out, out, to questionable, to playing in a short span of time. [...] The league office will certainly take note of that," said Jared Greenberg on NBA on TNT.
For any fantasy owner or sports bettor, it was a surprise that Joel Embiid was starting in the game as he was initially sidelined. Hence, this could be a reason why the NBA wants to investigate, as they have protocols to ensure fans are informed about player availability.
Nonetheless, it was joyful news to have Joel Embiid back, as he scored 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds following a knee procedure that kept him out for 8 weeks. The Sixers boast an excellent record of 27-8 with him in the starting lineup.
