Jaren Jackson Jr. dropped 40 points as the Memphis Grizzlies secured a 110-108 win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Despite Cade Cunningham's 36-point effort, he missed a game-tying shot as time expired. Jackson shot 13 of 23 from the field and 12 of 14 from the free-throw line. Luke Kennard, a former Piston, contributed 19 points for Memphis, which had previously lost three straight and seven of eight games.

Detroit, on the other hand, has lost nine of their last ten matches. In a critical moment, a loose ball went out of bounds with 1:04 remaining, initially awarded to the Pistons. However, a challenge by Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins overturned the decision, revealing the ball had actually touched the foot of Detroit rookie Chimezie Metu.

Despite several missed opportunities, Cunningham had a final chance to tie the game. Pistons' center Jalen Duren exited the game in the first quarter due to a facial injury. Detroit managed to establish a 57-44 halftime lead with an 18-3 run late in the second quarter, fueled by strong performances from Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, who combined for 35 points on 14-of-19 shooting. Jackson contributed 13 points for Memphis in the first half.

Coach Taylor Jenkins believes Jackson has elevated his game significantly since transitioning to the center position.

''JJ was phenomenal tonight,'' Jenkins said. ''Not just 40 points, but he was playing downhill and getting to the line. It is really impressive what he's done since probably the middle of January, when we made the change.''
