The current NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, have opted out of visiting the White House to mark their title win, aiming to secure the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Originally slated for late January, their visit was rescheduled to March 18 due to a scheduling conflict, as reported by Chris Haynes during Thursday's TNT broadcast.

However, the Nuggets are now prioritizing their quest for the top seed and wish to avoid distractions.

Haynes mentioned on Thursday evening :

«Just last week I was informed that the Nuggets were concerned now because all of a sudden, after March 18, on March 19, they play the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minnesota, and now that game is a little bit more important than they had expected when they did reschedule, The Nuggets made a tough decision, but they're canceling that trip to the White House. ... I want to make this clear, it was clearly a basketball decision.»

Both the Nuggets and the Biden administration were eager to arrange the visit, but unfortunately, it didn't come to fruition this time, Haynes stressed.

As of Thursday, the Timberwolves currently occupy the top spot with a 43–19 record, while the Nuggets trail closely behind in the No. 3 position, just one game behind.
