Former Milwaukee Bucks coach, Mike Budenholzer, who was let go last May, is reportedly among the final contenders for the head coaching position with the Brooklyn Nets. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Budenholzer, along with Sacramento Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez and Suns associate head coach Kevin Young, are in the running for the coveted role.

Fernandez, presently the associate head coach of the Sacramento Kings, also holds the position of head coach for Canada's men's national team. He has been with the Kings since 2022.

Young, serving as the associate head coach of the Phoenix Suns, assumed the role in 2021.

Charania further disclosed that interim head coach Kevin Ollie has been under consideration during the selection process, along with other coaching prospects such as Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn and New Orleans associate head coach James Borrego. However, the Nets appear to have narrowed down their search to finalize candidates for the full-time position.

The Nets have seen a revolving door at the head coach position over the last four years. Following Kenny Atkinson's dismissal during the 2019-20 season, Steve Nash assumed the role ahead of the 2020-21 season. However, Nash's tenure was short-lived, and Jacque Vaughn took over shortly thereafter. Vaughn was subsequently let go in February after a disappointing start to the year.

Considering his impressive track record, Budenholzer appears to be a strong candidate for the Nets. During his time with the Hawks, he led the team to multiple playoff appearances, including a memorable run to the conference finals in 2015. Additionally, Budenholzer guided the Bucks to their first championship in decades.

While Budenholzer brings experience to the table, opting for a fresh perspective with Fernandez or Young might be worth considering. Both candidates have worked under seasoned head coaches, suggesting they have absorbed valuable insights that could benefit the Nets. Taking a chance on Fernandez or Young could yield positive results for Brooklyn in the long run.
