REPORT : 2 Players Ruled Out For NBA Awards
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis have been rendered ineligible for NBA awards this season. Mitchell missed his 18th game for Cleveland against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, while Porzingis missed his 18th game for Boston against the Portland Trail Blazers on the same night.
According to the new collective bargaining agreement, players can only miss up to 17 games (with certain exceptions) and still qualify for awards such as MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, and selection to the All-NBA or All-Defensive teams.Notably, Joel Embiid is among the highest-profile players who are also ineligible, with other notable names including Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Kristaps Porzingis, Julius Randle, and Bradley Beal. It's expected that Karl-Anthony Towns and Trae Young will soon join this list as well.
