Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert has incurred a significant fine from the NBA after implying to officials that they may have had a personal stake in the outcome of the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
In the final moments of a close contest, with the Timberwolves holding a narrow 97-96 lead over the Cavs, Gobert received his sixth foul of the night, resulting in his disqualification from the game. Clearly displeased with the call made by referee Scott Foster, Gobert gestured by rubbing his fingers together, hinting at potential financial involvement by the referees. The league disapproved of the demonstration, extending beyond the technical foul Gobert received. It was announced that Gobert has been fined $100,000 for the gesture.

"The fine takes into account Gobert's past instances of conduct detrimental to the NBA with regard to publicly criticizing the officiating."
Gobert, leading the race for NBA Defensive Player of the Year, exited the game with seven points and 17 rebounds for the second-ranked team in the Western Conference. The critical moment came when the technical foul allowed the Cavs to level the score, leading to their eventual victory, 113-104.
