Allen Iverson Makes a Surprising Statement
Over the past three decades, the NBA has undergone significant changes, notably with a considerable rise in offensive performance. Consequently, former top scorers are now contemplating their potential point output in today's NBA.
NBA icon Allen Iverson recently addressed this topic as a guest on Shaquille O'Neal's The Big Podcast with Shaq. With a bit of encouragement from Shaq and co-host Adam Lefkoe, Iverson provided an honest response to the intriguing question."I lost the scoring title to Kobe the year he averaged 35 [points per game]. I averaged 33," Iverson said. "If I were to play in this era, where it's wide open. If I could average 33 in a season [back then], I'm just going to take it up to 43. I know 10 points more."
Shaq promptly concurred.
Iverson is pointing to the 2005-06 NBA season, during which Bryant averaged 35.4 points per game, compared to his 33.0 average. At that time, LeBron James, in his third season, was the sole other player in the league to surpass the 30-point mark. Contrastingly, in the previous year, six players throughout the league achieved an average of 30 or more points per game.
