20 NBA Players Are Ineligible For Major Awards

The NBA's updated player participation policy for the 2023-24 season includes a key requirement: players must meet a 65-game threshold to qualify for major end-of-season awards. Consequently, a significant number of players, including 20 stars, have been deemed ineligible for any awards, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, OG Anunoby, LaMelo Ball, Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, Zach LaVine, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Jamal Murray, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Desmond Bane, Tyler Herro, Khris Middleton, and Julius Randle are among the 20 NBA stars who are ineligible for major end-of-the-season awards.

Donovan Mitchell, having missed 17 games already, faces a crucial threshold as he cannot afford to miss one more game to remain eligible. Similarly, Devin Booker, with 14 missed games, can only afford to miss two more, considering he played just 5 minutes in one game. Trae Young, who has missed 13 games, has a slightly larger margin, being able to miss only 4 more. On the other hand, Karl-Anthony Towns, having missed 5 games, could miss up to 12 more, but his recent meniscus tear makes it likely for him to reach the limit. Trae Young, recovering from finger surgery, faces a similar challenge, set to miss another four games. Donovan Mitchell, currently sidelined with a knee injury, is expected to join the list soon. As for Devin Booker, while he has played 50 games this season, only 49 of them count under the rule due to his brief appearance in one game. However, his status remains uncertain as he aims to avoid being added to the list, with his potential return for the upcoming game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
