Major Update for Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun, center for the Houston Rockets, avoided a significant injury to his lower right leg, sustaining a severe ankle sprain and a bruised knee, as per sources briefed ESPN on Monday.
Following his exit from the court on a wheelchair during the latter stages of Houston's victory against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night, Sengun underwent X-rays and an MRI on Monday, with results indicating that surgery wouldn't be necessary for his injuries, sources added.Sengun, 21, remains uncertain for the final month of the season due to significant healing required before he can return, sources indicated. Despite his absence, he has been a standout player this season, solidifying his role as a key player for the team.
Selected 16th overall in the 2021 NBA draft, Sengun boasts impressive stats, averaging 21 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5 assists on 53% shooting. He joins an elite group of players with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists this season, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Domantas Sabonis, and Nikola Jokic.
In a recent game against the San Antonio Spurs, Sengun recorded a career-high 45 points, making him only the fifth player in NBA history to achieve 45 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 steals in a single game.
