After weeks of speculation and an alleged trade proposal rejected by the 76ers, the Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly giving up on a trade for former MVP James Harden.

The Clippers Interest

After a disappointing stint with stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers have been looking to improve their roster in hopes of capturing their first NBA championship. They have been the odds-on favorite to land Harden for several weeks, but unfortunately, the trade negotiations fell through.

While negotiations have currently stopped, there is the potential for the Clippers to reemerge in discussions later in the season. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that talks have "paused" rather than come to a full halt. The Clippers' priority now is to start the season strong with their opener later tonight. They have reportedly undergone a new training regime in an attempt to keep their stars healthy and make a push for the NBA Finals.

Where Does Harden go From Here

After going through a similar situation with Ben Simmons, the 76ers organization has proven that they will wait until the right trade comes along. This means that, for Harden, he may have to stay another year in Philadelphia against his wishes.

He can try to boycott games, similar to Simmons, but this will likely result in massive fines rather than any progress toward a trade. So, for now, his best option remains to play for the 76ers and prove he can be professional until the right trade opportunity arises. Kevin Durant did a similar thing with Brooklyn last season but continued playing until a mid-season trade saw him moved to the Phoenix Suns.

As of now, it seems that Harden is learning from his former teammate and has officially rejoined the 76ers organization, expected to play in the coming weeks.
