Rockets hint at major draft day shakeup
The Houston Rockets are making waves in the 2024 NBA Draft. After a fortunate bump from the ninth to the third pick, thanks to the remnants of the 2021 James Harden trade, it seems they're not keen on using it for more young blood. GM Rafael Stone is reportedly looking to trade this high draft pick for a seasoned veteran. This isn't surprising. Last offseason's veteran acquisitions helped the team double their wins, leaping from a dismal 22 in the 2022-23 season to an impressive 41 in 2023-24.
Why go for more experience over youth? The Rockets already boast a robust young core, featuring talents like Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, and Jabari Smith II, not to mention the dynamic duo of Amen Thompson and Tari Eason. It's clear Houston is in a rush to capitalize on its current assets rather than wait for a rookie to ripen. This strategy may accelerate their trajectory towards being serious contenders. After all, in the ruthless grind of the NBA, sometimes the window to strike is narrower than it appears. Stone's gamble could very well be the push Houston needs to mix it up with the league's elites.
