On Saturday night at FedExForum, the Memphis Grizzlies honored Marc Gasol by retiring his No. 33 jersey. Gasol becomes the second player in franchise history to receive this honor, following Zach Randolph, whose No. 50 was retired on December 11, 2021.
The ceremony was attended by Randolph, along with Mike Conley and Tony Allen, marking the reunion of the Grizzlies' "Core Four" for the first time since their playoff streak ended in 2017.Gasol, arguably the most decorated player in Grizzlies history, boasts three All-Star selections and a Defensive Player of the Year award during his tenure with Memphis from 2008 to 2019.
His contributions to the team include holding numerous franchise records such as minutes played, games started, field goals made, free throws made, rebounds, and blocks. Gasol also ranks second in games played, points, and assists in franchise history.
Gasol clinched his inaugural NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 shortly after joining the team. Nevertheless, Gasol's legacy as a revered member of the Memphis Grizzlies endures, characterized by his defensive prowess and his 2013 Defensive Player of the Year accolade.
