Report: Christian Wood opts in for $3M player option
Big news coming out of LA — Christian Wood is sticking around for another year. Michael Scotto of USA Today broke the story Tuesday that Wood has opted in on his $3 million player option for the 2024-25 season. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster year for Wood, whose role with the Lakers was anything but steady. He hit the hardwood in 50 games, chalking up averages of 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and dishing out an assist over roughly 17 minutes per game.
The Lakers' playoff performance was underwhelming, and with Anthony Davis' ongoing injury woes, Christian Wood's role off the bench covering the PF/C positions becomes crucial. Despite this, he didn't really make a significant impact in the playoffs against Denver. Looking ahead to next season, a healthy Wood could potentially play a much larger role and make a more substantial contribution.
The Lakers' lineup has been like a revolving door this season, and with the looming question of whether LeBron James will pick up his player option, the team's roster could see some major shake-ups. This makes it tough to guess where Wood will fit into the Lakers' plans next season. But for now, he's secured his spot and his paycheck for another run. Whether he'll be a key player or just a bench warmer, only time will tell. But one thing's for sure, Wood's decision to stay could be a sneaky good move for the Lakers as they puzzle out their next steps.
