The Dallas Mavericks and Jason Kidd agreed on a multi-year extension
Just as they gear up for their second-round NBA playoff opener, the Dallas Mavericks have locked down head coach Jason Kidd with a multiyear contract extension. The exact financials of the deal haven't been disclosed, but the commitment signals strong confidence in Kidd's leadership.
In his third season at the helm in Dallas, Kidd has steered the Mavericks to an impressive 50-32 record during the regular season, securing the top spot in the Southwest Division. Under his guidance, the Mavs also clinched a first-round playoff victory against the Los Angeles Clippers in six games, showcasing their strength and strategic prowess on the court.Kidd isn't new to the Mavericks' ecosystem; he was drafted by Dallas as the second overall pick back in 1994. A 10-time All-Star as a player, Kidd was integral to the Mavericks' 2011 NBA Championship win during his second stint with the team. Before rejoining the Mavs as head coach in June 2021, he had coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks and was an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last season, Kidd led the Mavs to a 52-30 record and a deep playoff run to the conference finals, though they fell to the Golden State Warriors. Now, with a career coaching record of 323-296, including a 140-106 mark with the Mavericks, the 51-year-old Kidd looks set to push Dallas even further in the playoffs. As the Mavericks continue their quest for another championship, re-signing Kidd reflects their trust in his vision and strategy to lead the team forward.
