Magic's Franz Wagner slammed on social for disastrous game 7
Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner is probably going to lay low for a bit after his underwhelming performance in Game 7 against the Cleveland Cavaliers set social media ablaze. Wagner's shockingly poor showing—going 1-for-15 from the field—has left fans and critics reeling as they watched what might be one of the worst individual performances in NBA Playoff history. It almost seemed like Wagner was channeling a character from a "Saturday Night Live" sketch rather than competing in a high-stakes basketball game.
In what was his first postseason campaign, the German player ended the 2023-24 season with a dismal 6 points in 35 minutes during the decisive game. Besides his struggle to score, he managed to contribute six assists, six rebounds, one block, and one steal. His brother, Moritz Wagner, and teammates like Georgian Goga Bitadze and British Admiral Schofield, also had quiet games, with Bitadze not playing and Schofield inactive.
The Magic bowed out with a 106-94 loss, and Wagner's horrific 6.7% shooting, including an 0-for-5 from three-point land, will be remembered as the worst field goal percentage in a Game 7 in NBA playoff history, according to StatMuse. This fall from grace was startling, especially considering Wagner's solid performances leading up to this, including a 34-point outing in Game 4.
Now, with the season over, Wagner and the Magic will be spectators for the remainder of the playoffs. And perhaps, just maybe, Wagner will be buying teammate Paolo Banchero a beer, trying to make up for the nightmarish end to what had been a promising playoff run. How quickly fortunes can change in the NBA!
