In his NBA journey, Dallas Mavericks' standout Luka Doncic has soared to remarkable heights. Securing four All-NBA First-Team honors and on track for a fifth, he's averaging an impressive 34.0 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.1 rebounds. With each game, he's etching his name into the annals of history. During a recent appearance on "The Draymond Green Show," Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban delved into a compelling debate: Is Doncic already eclipsing Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki's legacy? Nowitzki notably guided the team to its sole NBA championship victory in 2011.

''Yes. No disrespect to Dirk. Dirk knows I love him to death Dirk will be the first one to tell you Luka's better,» Cuban said.''

In such discussions, it's important to distinguish between the "best" and the "greatest." Dirk Nowitzki's illustrious career undoubtedly positions him as the unquestioned greatest player in Mavericks history. However, comparing Nowitzki's prime impact to Doncic's current achievements initiates a distinct conversation.

In an interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic, Doncic discussed the 2018 NBA Draft, where he was passed over by the Sacramento Kings in favor of Marvin Bagley III, and reflected on the Dallas Mavericks' progress over the course of the season.

"They weren't [upset] at the beginning," the Slovenian guard said about Sacramento fans' behavior after the team elected not to draft him in 2018. "Not in the beginning. They just saw [what they missed out on] after," he continued. Very recently, Doncic got into trash-talk with Vlade Divac, Sacramento's GM, on this very topic.

While the attention-grabbing incident made waves, what holds greater significance is the Dallas Mavericks' recent surge, securing victories in seven consecutive games during a crucial period when the playoff landscape is taking shape.

For Doncic to stake a claim as the greatest player in Mavericks history, he'll likely need to secure both the MVP title and an NBA championship. Considering his current impact, it wouldn't be unexpected to witness him achieve both of these milestones.
