2 Potential Trade Destinations For Demar Derozan
With trade speculation surrounding Chicago for the past several years, it seems like now might finally be the time to move forward, Demar Derozan. As the Bulls have started just 2-5, we can now finally admit that their current roster is just not good enough to compete with the rest of the Eastern Conference.
With this being said, a full rebuild may be the Bulls' best option, and with a star like Derozan who still holds value to competing teams, they may be able to swap him out for either draft capital or young players to develop in said rebuild.Philadelphia 76ers
It is clear that the 76ers are actively looking for trade targets as of right now. They traded disgruntled superstar James Harden to the Clippers and have a lot of draft picks which they are reportedly wanting to quickly offload in return for a key player as soon as possible.
The Sixers clearly want to push for a championship as soon as this year. However, without a second bona fide star to pair alongside reigning MVP Joel Embiid, that goal looks unlikely, especially with the presently constructed Celtics and Bucks.
Derozan could be this star, he has been an All-Star in his last 2 seasons for Chicago, and has proven himself to be one of the most consistent scorers of the past decade averaging over 20 points per game every year since 2014. trading for Derozan right now will only help Philly come postseason when they have an established veteran who can create his own shot night in and night out and with his current contract set to expire they may even be able to trade him on good value.
Miami Heat
The Heat are fresh off an NBA Finals appearance but are in desperate need of another star. They lost many of their key rotation players such as Gabe Vincent and Max Strus in free agency, and after last season, nobody will be caught off guard by them this time once the playoffs come around.
Their main need as a team is a certified number 1 option to take the lead on offense. Butler is definitely a star and has proven that time and time again, but he is not regarded as a scorer at the level of DeRozan on a regular basis.
DeRozan can bring a guarantee of at least 25 points per game if he were the focal point of an offense. He has shown he can do this with both Toronto and Chicago. Another factor to consider is that the Heat already have DeRozan's longtime friend and teammate, Kyle Lowry. The two had several successful seasons together in Toronto, and the Heat might fancy their chances at recreating history by reuniting the infamous duo.
The Heat don't necessarily have a lot of valuable assets to trade currently, but with DeRozan and Butler both being 34, the Bulls could take a chance on the first-round picks becoming valuable in the very near future. If not, the Heat would likely have to give up Nikola Jokic and at least either R.J. Hampton or Jaime Jaquez Jr., which I am sure the Heat will have no problem with.
