The Hornets have made a major move
The Hornets, currently ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference, are determined to elevate their position for the upcoming season. They recently traded Terry Rozier to the Heat and PJ Washington to the Mavericks, making significant adjustments to their roster. With the spotlight on Lamelo Ball, they are now contemplating changes to their front office.
Plans are underway to appoint Jeff Peterson, currently with the Brooklyn Nets, as the Hornets' new head of basketball operations, sources informed ESPN on Thursday. Peterson, 35, is poised to take on the challenge of revitalizing the Hornets, traditionally seen as an underperforming franchise, marking a significant career milestone. New owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin have selected Peterson to succeed Mitch Kupchak, who is transitioning from general manager to an advisory role within the organization.Peterson teamed up with Nets GM Sean Marks as an assistant GM in 2019, quickly earning trust as the right-hand person in a front office that successfully lured Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency and acquired James Harden via trade.
He now follows in the footsteps of another assistant GM from Marks' team, Trajan Langdon, who moved up to a GM position with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.
