Boston Celtics Clinch NBA's Top Spot with Best Regular Season Record
After their 135-100 victory over the shorthanded Thunder, the Celtics are on track to finish the regular season with the best record in the NBA for the first time since 2007-08. With a record of 60-16, this marks their first 60+ win season since 2008-09. Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault likened the Celtics' season performance to that of a Ferrari.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are the only team with a chance to surpass the Celtics, but they remain seven wins away from that possibility. Boston's recent victory over the Thunder further solidified its position, granting them another advantage as the playoffs draw near. Kristaps Porzingis contributed significantly with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks, propelling the Celtics to a commanding 135-100 win over the Thunder on Wednesday night, securing the best record in the NBA and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. With their 11th consecutive home win, Boston improved to a season record of 60-16, marking their 14th 60-win season in franchise history. ESPN Stats & Information notes that the Lakers are the only other franchise with at least 10 such seasons, boasting 11.
Boston coach Joe Mazzulla emphasized that while the milestone is a noteworthy achievement, his team will not take it for granted. However, he also expressed his desire for the Celtics not to dwell on it.

"It's very hard to do. We may never be in this position again," Mazzulla said. "We talked about it as a team. We talked about it before the game, to try to treat this game as the clincher. To kind of put that on ourselves to be able to do that. I think it was important for us to simulate that. ... We should enjoy it tonight, and when wake up tomorrow -- nobody cares."
Brown's availability for the game was uncertain due to a sprained left hand. He underwent examination after Boston's victory at Charlotte on Monday, describing the injury as a sprained ligament. Boston held a lead of up to 16 points in the first half, but Oklahoma City narrowed the gap to six points in the third quarter. With a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Celtics initiated a 12-4 run, extending their lead to 105-87.
