Breaking News: Lakers Secure Major Acquisition
Sources informed The Athletic's Shams Charania that once Spencer Dinwiddie clears waivers, he will join the Los Angeles Lakers. Following his waiver placement by the Toronto Raptors, multiple contenders, including his former team the Dallas Mavericks, expressed interest in acquiring him. This anticipated signing follows Dinwiddie's appearance alongside Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka during their recent victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Dinwiddie averaged 12.6 points, six assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game during his 48 starts for Brooklyn this season. His imminent arrival bolsters the Lakers' backcourt depth behind D'Angelo Russell, a necessity especially with point guard Gabe Vincent sidelined since undergoing knee surgery in December.
Despite their urgency to compete in the Western Conference, the Lakers were reportedly far from completing any trades at the deadline. General Manager Pelinka cited exorbitant asking prices from other teams as a deterrent. However, he emphasized the team's intention to actively pursue players in the buyout market, with Dinwiddie highlighted as a priority.
Numerous seasoned players were waived on Thursday and are now available in the buyout market, including Furkan Korkmaz, Joe Harris, Cory Joseph, and Thaddeus Young. Additionally, Kyle Lowry, traded to the Charlotte Hornets from the Miami Heat, is expected to join the buyout market.
