Will Jrue Holiday be the next star in a blockbuster trade?
During the 2023 NBA playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks would lose to the Miami Heat in a gentleman's sweep. This would be the second season in a row that Milwaukee Bucks fans would be disappointed with their team's play following their 2021 NBA championship. To top it off, their team isn't getting any younger and is currently ranked as the 3rd oldest in the entire league. These could be signs that the team may need to look at retooling their roster. Unfortunately, they're low on draft capital and won't have a first-round pick up until 2028. They will most likely be forced to trade one of their veteran players in order to continue their success.
One player that's speculated to be on the move as of late is Jrue Holiday. Jrue is 33 years old and is going to be playing in his 15th NBA season. While his points, assists, rebounds and steals have remained consistent, his efficiency has not. While there wasn't a huge drop during the 2022-2023 regular season, there was certainly a difference in the playoffs, shooting just 29% from three. His contract is also expected to end in 2024 unless he uses his player option, which would give him one more year with the Milwaukee Bucks. It is in the best interest of the Milwaukee Bucks to trade Jrue Holiday before a potential decline in his play, and before they could lose him for nothing in free agency. James Piercey from the NBA Analysis Network proposed a potential trade involving the Los Angeles Lakers that could solve some of their problems.
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: G D'Angelo Russell, F Rui Hachimura, F/C Jarred Vanderbilt, 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Jrue Holiday
This could potentially benefit both teams, as the Lakers would get a star point guard to help LeBron James chase another NBA championship before his career ends. The Bucks would have a replacement at guard, they would inject their roster with some youth, get some much-needed wing help and acquire draft capital. This trade could allow both squads to make it to the NBA finals and perhaps have a couple of players face their previous team in what would be an exciting series.
