Multiple Teams Want to Trade for James Harden

Several teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, want to trade for Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden. NBA insider Howard Beck reports this. Harden asked for a trade from the Sixers. He prefers to join the Clippers. But no progress happened between the teams.


Sixers agreed to look for a trade because Harden asked. He picked his $35.6 million player option for next season in June. But Philly asked for a lot in return for Harden. No team was ready to give that.
Sixers think they can be champions with Harden back, alongside Joel Embiid. They want to make it work with Harden next season. However, NBA insider Joe Vardon from The Athletic says Harden won't play for the Sixers again. He won't join training camp if he's still on the team.


Last season, Harden played 58 games for the Sixers. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists. He shot 44.1% from the field, 38.5% from 3-point range, and 86.7% from free throws. He led the NBA in assists per game for the second time.
Harden got fined $100,000 by the NBA for calling Sixers president Daryl Morey «a liar» during his Adidas tour in China. He doesn't have a relationship with Morey anymore. The 10-time NBA All-Star called Morey a liar because he wasn't traded right after he picked his 2023-24 player option.


If Harden isn't traded before training camp starts and he doesn't play for over 30 days, the Sixers can stop him from becoming a free agent in the summer of 2024. NBA insider Zach Lowe from ESPN says this. Since Harden is in the last year of his contract, different NBA holdout rules apply if he doesn't join training camp and games.
