Insider's Report: Spurs Set to Acquire Clippers' Player

The San Antonio Spurs are considering strengthening their backcourt before the trade deadline, exploring potential moves while maintaining a low profile. While a major acquisition like Dejounte Murray seems unlikely, the Spurs may opt for smaller transactions to support their young core and Victor Wembanyama.

Facing a shortage in point guard depth, Tre Jones stands as the sole true point guard, with Blake Wesley and Malaki Branham better suited for off-ball play. Following the conclusion of the Jeremy Sochan experiment, pairing Wembanyama with a point guard like Jones has been successful.

Bones Hyland emerges as a potential trade target for the Spurs. The 23-year-old guard, currently on the Clippers' bench, has seen reduced playing time since the acquisition of James Harden, prompting the Clippers to entertain offers.

In a proposed mock trade, the Spurs could receive Bones Hyland and PJ Tucker, with the Clippers acquiring Doug McDermott. McDermott, a free agent this summer, provides the Clippers flexibility. Both Hyland and Tucker are under contract through the next season, with Tucker likely to be bought out by San Antonio.

Before the reduction in playing time, Hyland proved effective as a backup guard for the Nuggets and Clippers, averaging 10.9 points and 2.9 assists in 19 minutes over his first two seasons, showcasing a career 36 percent three-point shooting record.
