In an insider scoop, an NBA executive disclosed to Heavy Sports' Sean Deveney that the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs are sneaky contenders to monitor in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. This scenario could unfold if the superstar requests a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks or opts for free agency in the summer of 2025 by passing on his 2025-26 player option.

According to the NBA executive,
"You can't dismiss these teams. Giannis has always shown he's all about winning, like that's his top priority. He's a bit unique in that way. If that holds true, wouldn't he consider playing under (Gregg Popovich), teaming up with Wemby there? Imagine if Toronto traded just one of their guys and landed Giannis? They'd have something truly special."

Antetokounmpo himself recently revealed to NBA reporter Tania Ganguli of The New York Times that he won't ink an extension with the Bucks this year. The two-time MVP will be eligible for a contract extension come September.

As Antetokounmpo put it,
"This year's not the real question, numbers-wise it doesn't add up. But next year, next summer, it'd align better for both sides. Even then, I'm uncertain."

Adding more depth to the story, Antetokounmpo stressed,
"I can't be my best self if I'm not convinced everyone's onboard, chasing a championship, ready to sacrifice family time like I do. If I don't sense that commitment, I won't sign."

Back in December 2020, the Bucks secured Antetokounmpo with a colossal five-year, $228.2 million designated maximum contract extension. The future Hall of Famer will rake in $45.6 million for the upcoming season.

Antetokounmpo's aspiration isn't to spend his entire NBA journey with the Bucks without adding another championship to his name. Despite claiming the 2021 title against the Phoenix Suns, the Bucks were eliminated in seven games by the Boston Celtics in the 2022 playoffs. Further disappointment came when they fell to the Miami Heat in five games during the first round of the 2023 playoffs.

Addressing his loyalty, Antetokounmpo shared,
"This is my team, and it'll always be my team. I can't forget those who supported me, enabled my greatness, and gave me a platform. But we need another win. Ultimately, being a winner transcends everything. The championship is the top goal. I don't want two decades with the same squad without another title."

Antetokounmpo, a standout in NBA history, boasts career averages of 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. His accolades include the Most Improved Player of the Year Award, two regular-season MVPs, a Finals MVP, and a Defensive Player of the Year Award, all earned while donning the Bucks' jersey.
