Exclusive : It is confirmed for Lebron James
LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, dismisses the idea that his high-profile client is seeking to leave Hollywood, where he plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
"LeBron won't be traded, and we aren't asking to be,"
Paul informed ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Friday.
James sparked curiosity about his future with a mysterious X post early Wednesday. At 2:26 a.m. ET, after a defeat to the Hawks in Atlanta, the 39-year-old shared a lone hourglass emoji, fueling speculation about its significance. Despite no clarification from James, the post remains undeleted.
The Lakers, currently 25-25 and ninth in the Western Conference, are on track for a second play-in tournament appearance. They hold a slim 1.5-game lead over the 11th-place Houston Rockets and two games over the 12th-placed Golden State Warriors.
While there's no official indication of the Lakers exploring a trade for four-time Finals MVP LeBron James, there are plausible reasons for the franchise to consider it. In his 21st season, James' scoring average of 24.9 points in 44 games is his lowest since his rookie year. Despite a $51.4-million player option for next year, he could become a free agent to potentially join the team that drafts his son, Bronny, in this year's draft—assuming Bronny declares after the season.
A LeBron trade could also help the Lakers replenish future assets, crucial as they owe multiple first- and second-round picks to various teams through 2029. The Stepien Rule limits them from trading consecutive years of their own first-round selections, making the earliest available for trade their 2029 pick.
