Tragic news hits Miami Heat forward
Involved in a car accident on his way home from the team's Tuesday matchup against the Orlando Magic at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Haywood Highsmith was ruled out of Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs for "personal reasons."
Reported by the Miami Sun-Sentinel, Highsmith himself was not hurt in the accident, but others were injured. While the Heat did not disclose specific details about the accident, they expressed empathy.In a statement, the Heat addressed the situation, saying,
"We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night's game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight's contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to personal reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time."
At 27 years old, Highsmith is in his third season with the Heat. Despite often coming off the bench, he has started 24 games in the 2023-24 season due to the team's health issues. He is currently averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game this season.
