NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced on Wednesday that Las Vegas is being considered for expansion franchises, confirming it is "definitely on our list" of potential cities. While Las Vegas has been previously mentioned as an NBA destination, the timeline for expansion remains uncertain. Silver has stressed that serious discussions about expansion will take place after the current media rights deal, valued at $24 billion over nine years, expires.

During an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN, one of the league's media partners, Silver reiterated that expansion talks will commence after new media agreements are finalized. Las Vegas, already home to the NBA's primary summer league and the successful WNBA franchise, the Aces, has hosted various league events, including All-Star Weekend and the inaugural in-season tournament's semifinals and final this season. Expansion has long been a goal for Las Vegas, with LeBron James expressing interest in owning a team there.

Seattle has also been frequently mentioned as a potential expansion location. Silver noted that Mexico City is "on our radar," although expansion to the city is unlikely in the immediate future. Other cities such as Nashville, Vancouver, and Montreal have also expressed interest in acquiring an expansion franchise.

Silver is scheduled to discuss expansion plans further during his annual All-Star Weekend news conference with multiple media outlets on Saturday night.
