Doc Rivers made a request before joining the Milwaukee Bucks in February.

"Taking a job when you're about to go on the toughest road trip of the season is not the smartest decision, I even told them that: ‘Can we wait ‘til All-Star break?' You know, it would have been a lot nicer."

Rivers, coaching the Eastern Conference team at Sunday's All-Star Game, stated on Saturday during the NBA's All-Star Media Day.

Instead of fulfilling Rivers' request, the Bucks appointed him on Jan. 26 to succeed Joe Prunty, who assumed the interim head coaching role following the dismissal of Adrian Griffin on Jan. 23.

Rivers debuted as coach on Jan. 29 in Denver, and the Bucks continued with four away games before coming back to Milwaukee on Feb. 8. Under Rivers' leadership, they've recorded a 3-7 record.

The Bucks fired Griffin with a 30-13 record, but their defense was struggling, allowing 116.8 points per 100 possessions, ranking among the league's worst. Under Rivers, their defense has improved slightly to 113.6 points per 100 possessions. However, their offense has declined notably.

Despite Antetokounmpo and Lillard's All-Star performances, their chemistry hasn't met expectations. With Rivers, they've scored just 111.9 points per 100 possessions compared to 120.6 under Griffin. The Bucks are currently third in the East but face pressure with a slim lead over the seventh-place Heat. They ended the pre-All-Star break with two losses, including one to the Grizzlies.
