Washington Wizards Owner Blasts Russell Westbrook After Trade to Lakers
Washington Wizards team owner Ted Leonsis threw shots at Russell Westbrook after trade to Lakers.
Leonsis, who is also the owner of Washington Capitals, questioned Westbrook's loyalty. The recent turn of events has seemingly left Wizards and Capitals' team owner Ted Leonsis questioning the latter's loyalty.
According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, Leonais threw some shade toward Westbrook:
"We had a superstar player with the Wizards, he had an opportunity and wanted to be traded to the Lakers," Leonsis said. "And I was dealing with that as we were announcing Alex. I couldn't help but self-reflect on what a difference it is. Here's a great player in Russell Westbrook, played in OKC, wanted to be traded, went to Houston, wanted to be traded, came to D.C., wanted to be traded and is now in L.A. He's an unbelievably great person and an unbelievably great player. But that's the difference between the NBA and the NHL, I suppose."
Westbrook has reportedly requested a trade after news about Bradley Beal considering his future with the Wizards.
The 32-year-old point guard decided to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis after he saw the opportunity for his career to come home and win a ring at the same time.
Westbrook spent 11 seasons with Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to Houston Rockets and then the Wizards where he spent one season each.
If Leonais was questioning Westbrook's loyalty, then he should definitely look at the latter's time with OKC.
