However, potential luxury tax implications deterred some teams from signing Snell to a standard contract despite open roster spots.

In a nuanced situation, Tony Snell's eligibility for certain salary considerations typically requires just one day of service on an NBA roster. While several teams were open to signing him to a 10-day deal this week for that purpose, the retiree benefits plan, stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement, demands players to be on an NBA roster for the remainder of the season by Feb. 2 or play 50% of the season's games.
