Sixers Appear Ready to Break Up Simmons and Embiid Duo
The Philadelphia 76ers made a disappointing playoff exit this year to a decidedly overachieving Atlanta Hawks team in game 7 of the conference semi-finals. Ben Simmons came under fire repeatedly from Sixers fans during the series for his lack of aggressiveness on the offensive end and his unwillingness to shoot the basketball. Fans' frustration with Simmons boiled over after he passed up a wide-open dunk attempt in favor of passing to his (guarded) teammate.
Since the exit, rumors have swirled regarding what teams might be interested in a Simmons trade, however, it appeared early on that the Sixers were planning on keeping Simmons and developing his shooting ability in the offseason. Today, it was reported that the Sixers have officially started listening to offers for Simmons, and they expect an all-star in return.
Many believe that the Sixers asking price of an all-star for Simmons may be too high, especially following his disappointing playoff performance. While Philadelphia won't be trading Simmons for young players and picks, there appears to be a disconnect between GM Daryl Morey and the rest of the league regarding his value in a potential deal.
