Report: The Lakers Might Be Losing Another Major Player

Marc Gasol has found a strong dynamic with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. For much of the last Lakers season, he was able to produce some great passes and impressive plays. Some people forget that, despite Anthony Davis, LA isn't the biggest team in the world and they usually need a lot of help in the paint.

Well, they might be losing Gasol's assistance. According to Marc Stein, Gasol "is not a lock" to return to the Lakers next season, even though he has repeatedly said he would be. Where will he go? And why?

Gasol:

I'm hearing that Marc Gasol is not a lock to return to the Lakers, even after Gasol said following Spain's quarterfinal loss to the United States in the Olympics that he intends to play out the final year of the two-year deal he signed with Los Angeles. It's not yet clear if that means Gasol is poised to be set free to play elsewhere in the NBA or if he would ultimately opt to finish his career in his home country like brother Pau.

Apparently, Gasol has gotten a new perspective on his career after playing in the Olympics for his home country of Spain. It sounds like he might be thinking of heading back home to wrap up his career.

If the Lakers do lose Gasol, they will have a big hole to fill. He is set to play the big man alongside Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis (although AD typically doesn't like playing center) and if he leaves Los Angeles, Frank Vogel will have to figure out a way to keep the team competitive - and big.
