One Super Team Discussed Trading For Damian Lillard

We all knew that multiple teams were going to be vying for Damian Lillard's loyalties in the offseason. Even though the star point guard hasn't asked for a trade and the Portland Trail Blazers will do everything in their power to prevent one, there is a now-endless stream of rumors about Lillard shipping out elsewhere after another disappointing season in Portland.

And now it looks like one of the biggest teams in the association is inquiring about gaining him. The Athletic reports that the Golden State Warriors have "internally discussed" the idea of trading for Lillard.

Here's their take:

"Would the Warriors get involved? Yes. They'd make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I'm sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland.

Their theoretical offer would be competitive. If the Blazers decided to trade Lillard, a complete rebuild seems like the wisest path and there aren't many better rebuilding trade packages dangling out there right now than James Wiseman, the seventh and 14th pick in the upcoming draft, plus more future firsts, attached to Andrew Wiggins as salary match filler."

It is true that the Warriors would offer Portland more than they could get with almost any other team. At the same time, is that enough for the Blazers? You have to remember that Lillard isn't just good - he's downright unbelievable, arguably one of the finest point guards in the history of the NBA. They're not going to let go of him until they absolutely have to.

You can expect that this won't be the last team putting up everything but the kitchen sink in the months ahead. There has never been an offseason trade target as red-hot as Damian Lillard. Now we just have to wait and see if anyone lands him.
