Kyle Lowry just signed with the Miami Heat in one of the biggest deals of the offseason but his move to South Beach wasn't a foregone conclusion. Of course, multiple teams were vying to land the former Toronto Raptors star. And now we know which teams were in the fight.

Dallas Mavericks fans, you might want to sit down for this one.

Miami Herald's Barry Jackson gave some insight into the Lowry acquisition.

"We're told Dallas finished second behind the Heat for Lowry; he was intrigued by the Mavericks, who were willing to meet his price tag, but he preferred playing with Butler in Miami. New Orleans was willing to go to $90 million over three years or more, according to a source, but Lowry never leaned toward going there, according to the source. Lowry took three years and $85 million from Miami."

This news really hurts for Dallas. They're obviously on the hunt for a star to play alongside Luka Doncic and Lowry would have been an incredible fit. Unfortunately, once again Dallas came this close to getting another superstar.

As for New Orleans, the fact that they offered Lowry a bigger deal and he still chose Miami shows the shape the Pelicans are in. Even fat paychecks can't get them the players they need. Ouch.
