Malik Monk was one of the surprise signings with the Los Angeles Lakers this free agency.

Monk is a young guard who can definitely shoot the three. He is a former lottery pick that was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets as their 11th pick in 2017 NBA Draft.

Last year, the 6'3 guard out of Kentucky averaged 11.7 points on 43% shooting from the field, 40% from behind the arc and 84% from the free throw line. Monk became the odd man out in Charlotte with the resurgence of Terry Rozier and the addition of 'Rookie of the Year' LaMelo Ball last year. The team also signed Kelly Oubre Jr. via free agency.

Monk then surprisingly decided to join the Lakers along with Kendrick Nunn. The 23-year-old point guard talks about playing alongside NBA superstars LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. He believes that he'll finally get the open shots he needs to prove his worth in the league.

«It will open everything up for me. A lot more easier shots, a lot more uncontested shots, a lot more drives where I can get downhill because LeBron, AD, and Russ are going to make the floor more spaced out for all of us," Monk told Jacob Rude of Silver Screen & Roll."

«I just try to be the best I can in every little aspect of the game, and I think I bring a lot to the table here as well with all the greats here, man,» Monk said. «LeBron, AD, Russ, Carmelo (Anthony), Dwight (Howard), everybody man. Everybody. I can feed off them and I think I can learn a lot from them. So I bring excitement, just like Westbrook, to the game. Plus shooting.» I'm just thankful I have the opportunity to be here with all these greats and this amazing organization. I think I'll get everything out of it.»

Monk is expected to provide bench scoring and outside shooting for the Lakers. His 40% three-point shooting percentage last season will definitely increase this season by playing with James, Westbrook and Davis.
