NBA and rap culture have gone hand in hand for decades now, with rap stars dedicating songs to their favorite NBA players, and some NBA players even releasing their own rap music.

Two of the most notable NBA stars to release rap music are Shaquille O'Neal and Damian Lillard, who have each released multiple albums. They even once engaged in a rap feud, producing back-and-forth diss tracks about one another several years back. Now, the two appear to be on the same page and have both been featured in a recent remix of the song "Shaq and Kobe" by Meek Mill and Rick Ross.

Shaq and Dame Diss Tracks

Shaq and Lillard both went viral in 2019 during their rap feud. It started when O'Neal made a 4-minute diss track in response to Lillard's claim that he was a better rapper than Shaq. The feud began after Lillard's appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, during which he stated that people didn't see Shaq as a legitimate rapper.

"People weren't looking at it like he's a real rapper. It was like, 'That's Shaq rapping.' So, of course, it was a big deal."

After Shaq released his diss track aimed at Lillard, he challenged Dame to respond, and respond he did. Dame came back with a brutal track titled "Reign Reign Go Away." In the track, he took pointed shots at the Hall of Famer before reiterating his claim to be the best NBA rapper.

The feud continued with each participant releasing a second diss track to finish off the four-song battle. The rivalry grew so significant that it garnered media attention and made its way into the sports world, with segments on the feud appearing on shows such as First Take.

New Remix

With their feud now years in the past, Shaquille O'Neal and Damian Lillard have actually teamed up in a recently remixed version of "Shaq and Kobe" by artists Rick Ross and Meek Mill.

The original song was released over a month ago and already has millions of listens worldwide. Based on the Lakers championship duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, the remix, bringing in two NBA stars as features, shows off the connection between Rap and the NBA once again.
