LeBron James Talks About His Retirement
It's wild to believe that LeBron James has been in the NBA for 18 seasons. It's been an incredible and legendary journey since the kid from Akron got drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2003.
After nearly 20 years in the league and four rings to his name, it only makes sense that people start to wonder how much longer he will be playing. He is currently signed with the Lakers through the 2022-23 season. The end of his current contract will mark 20 years in the association. Does that mean he will hang it up after that?Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, James gave some insight into what is coming next for him. Spoiler: it's good news for Lakers fans.
"I truly hope that I can finish my career with the Lakers. And how many years that is, if it's four, five, six, whatever, seven, I hope I can continue to play the game. I love being in L.A., my family loves being in L.A.
Being with a historical franchise like the Lakers is something like, it's like me being in 'Space Jam' now. I never thought it'd be possible."
It seems very likely that LeBron will probably end his historic career in Los Angeles, which makes perfect sense considering his future in Hollywood looks quite bright. Plus, as LeBron said, his family has become quite comfortable in LA. That gives him even more reason to end his time in the NBA at the Staples Center.
Now the big question is this: does LeBron have another championship run in him? While he is still undeniably one of the best players alive, time is catching up with him and injuries are becoming more common. However, if NBA fans have learned one thing over the years, it's to never count LeBron out.
