Kristaps Porzingis Talks His Role in Dallas: "It Was Hard"

Like all of the Dallas Mavericks organization, big man Kristaps Prozingis is disappointed by how the season ended. After showing much promise at the beginning of the first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Mavs eventually had their season end after seven brutal games. Many people pointed a finger at Porzingis, who hasn't been assisting Mavs superstar Luka Doncic as they had hoped.

Now Porzingis is getting quite candid about his relationship with the team and the way the organization hopes he plays.

Speaking to a Latvian sports show in his home country, Porzingis admitted that he had a difficult time becoming sidekick to Doncic and changing his game to accommodate the Mavs' plan:

«At the start it was hard for me to accept my role because I'm not used to having my part reduced like that. I was put in the corner and did my job like a soldier.»

Some would argue that he really wasn't acting like a soldier since his output was greatly impaired once the series against the Clippers began.

There has been a lot of speculation about what happens next to Porzingis and the rest of the Mavericks. There is no question that some changes will be made and the focus will be solely on building up around Doncic. Will Porzingis be able to adjust to that? Will he be able to reach 20-a-game again or will he only produce 13 points as he did in the playoffs? If Porzginis hopes to stick around in Dallas much longer, he is going to have to fall in line with the future of the team, Luka Doncic.
