Kevin Durant On If The Nets Are The Villains Of The NBA: "I Don't Think We Take On That Mentality."
It seems that there has been a level of villainy surrounding Kevin Durant's name since he decided to leave Oklahoma City for the Golden State Warriors just months after being knocked out of the playoffs by them. Of course, he is also infamous for stating that he was taking the hardest path in doing so. Durant has since joined the Brooklyn Nets, forming a super team with James Harden and Kyrie Irving (as well as LaMarcus Aldridge before his early retirement).
Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso recently interviewed him, asking if Durant if he felt the Nets were the new villains of the league. The Brooklyn superstar had this to say:"I don't. It kind of looks that way, right? Our team wears all black and we kind of got three guys on the team that a lot of fans in the NBA don't really like as much. It can seem that way, but I don't think we take on that mentality. I think we come in and operate at a pretty smooth, easy, reserved level. We're just very high-skilled guys, but I guess the outside perception, it can seem that way. But for us, we just really enjoy playing every day."
Durant's response was surprisingly mature given his previous Twitter antics following his exit from the Oklahoma City Thunder:
Regardless of if they're the villains of the league or not, look for the Nets to make a serious title run next season with their three all-star lineup.
