Jamal Murray's Twitter Activity Sparks Lakers Trade Rumors
Denver Nuggets star point guard Jamal Murray went down earlier this season with a torn ACL. While this didn't stop the Nuggets from routing the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs, they weren't able to overcome the Phoenix Suns in the second round and failed to make the conference finals for the second year in a row.
Murray signed a maximum contract extension with the Nuggets in June 2019 worth over $170 million, but his Twitter activity suggests that he might already be looking for a change of scenery.Rumors soon started to circulate across Twitter that Murray was planning on requesting a trade from the Nuggets this offseason. While this seems unlikely given their recent success and the Lakers' lack of trade assets, the Nuggets are in a tough position moving forward. Currently one of the deepest teams in the league, the Nuggets are only able to retain their current roster for one more season before being forced to break the team up due to salary cap constraints.
There has been no indication from the Nuggets that their core duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray will be broken up soon, and Michael Porter Jr. appears to be developing into a potential third star for the team. Even with the salary cap issues taken into consideration, the Nuggets are in a much better position to be able to generate long-term success than the Lakers are, and it would be hard to see Murray leaving his current situation unless things went sideways within the Nuggets organization.
