Have the Pistons Changed Their Minds on Cade Cunningham?

Over the last few days, there has been a lot of speculation about Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham. The player has been a presumptive number one pick in the NBA draft for months now and when the Detroit Pistons landed the top pick, it seemed like Cunningham landing at Detroit was a done deal. But recently there has been talk that it wasn't such a sure thing. Various reports out of Detroit said that the team was wondering if perhaps they would fare better if they went with a different player or perhaps traded the pick away.

Jonathan Givony of ESPN says those rumors are hogwash and, in the end, Cunningham is still likely headed straight to the Pistons when the draft is done.

"But would the Pistons really pass on Cunningham if the draft were tonight? I still think the answer is no. I would put Cunningham as the overwhelming favorite to end up in Detroit at that spot still, which, by the way, I've been told he would be very excited about."

You can't blame Detroit for contemplating any different approach for the draft, there are a lot of great players looking for a home. Still, it's incredibly special to get a number one pick, giving that away is usually a bone-headed move. Detroit has the chance to sign Cunningham and rebuild their team around him and it's not a shocker that they'll likely take him. We will find out on the 29th at the NBA draft.
