Goran Dragic explains why he snubbed chance to play with fellow Slovenian Luka Doncic
Goran Dragic surprised everybody when he decided to sign with the Chicago Bulls instead of teaming up with fellow Slovenian International player Luka Doncic.
He spoke with the Slovenian media and explained that the Mavs had different plans for him, kind of like a Boban role, where he plays few minutes and helps the young players instead.Goran has a very special frienship with Doncic, the 2 knew each other from back home and used to play some pickup when Goran would head back in the summer.
Goran talks to Mike Smitz of ESPN about the special relationship.
«Dragic has become Doncic's national team roommate, friend, mentor and sounding board as he goes through the pre-draft process that almost took Dragic to the brink mentally. Doncic's situation is different. He's a potential No. 1 pick, a child prodigy who has been producing at an unprecedented level at age 18. But Dragic's presence is imperative for Doncic, who will likely face the criticism that goes with European prospects selected in the top five.»
The Chicago Bulls with be the 4th team in the last year for the Slovenia journeyman. He got traded to the Raptors from the Heat, then went on to the Spurs to get bought out, leading to his free agent signing with the Nets.
If only the Mavs had different plans for Dragic, it would have been fun to watch the 2 Slovenian guards play together in the NBA. Especially after the loss of Jalen Brunson, who went on to sign with the Knicks.
