Danny Green Calls Out 76ers Fans: "We're Not Zoo Animals"
Even though their team was the number-one seed in the East, many Philadelphia 76ers fans are not too happy right now. That's mostly because people felt that the 6ers could have gone further if it weren't for some odd coaching calls and lackluster performances, like that from perennial punching bag Ben Simmons.
Now Philly star Danny Green is letting his opinions on the angry fans be known. The veteran player has only spent one season in Philadelphia so far (and is up for free agency) but has gotten a taste of just how vocal Philly fans can be. Personally, Green thinks it can have a huge impact on the players."We're the No. 1 team in the East, still playing well, and in some games they'll boo us — that's part of the culture here, part of their way of showing they love us — but with a guy like Ben, and other guys, I think they need to stick behind them and stick by them as long as they can, until the horn blows. And even then, he's here. He's given so much to the organization and the city, on and off the court, that he deserves that respect and that support."
Green isn't wrong, the Philadelphia 76ers definitely got booed at home a few times this past season. Fans of the team have always been quite outspoken, especially during downtimes in seasons past.
Simmons went on to say that he feels the atmosphere in the city has to change because he feels disrespected.
"We're not zoo animals where you can throw things or be on our side when it's convenient," Green said.
It remains to be seen how 76ers fans will treat their team next season, especially if some major moves are made. The NBA has recently been trying to monitor fan interaction more to make sure things don't get too nasty but there is little they can do for a bad attitude among 76ers faithful. Perhaps the only real cure for that is a successful championship run.
