Andre Iguodala Says He would Rather Have Seen Curry Win 2015 Finals MVP
The Golden State Warriors won the first championship of the Stephen Curry era in the 2014-2015 NBA season, with veteran Andre Iguodala receiving the finals MVP award in large part for his stellar defense on LeBron James throughout the series.
Since Iguodala's FMVP selection, many have debated whether Curry should have actually won the award. Curry was better than Iguodala in almost every statistical category during the final series of the 2015 NBA playoffs, however, Iguodala proponents argue that the series could never have been won without Iggy's defensive efforts. Both Iguodala and Curry have been relatively unresponsive to conversations regarding the award in the past, however on JJ Redick's most recent episode of his podcast «The old man and the three», Iguodala finally spoke on the issue. Iggy recanted a story where he told Trevor Ariza that he wished Curry would have won the award, a missing piece that many claim is the only blemish on his resume. Ariza followed this remark by praising Iguodala's defense, clearly in staunch support of his selection, resulting in Iggy finally recognizing that he should have been the winner of the award.
Even though Iguodala has now said his piece on the issue, it's unlikely that this conversation will die down between NBA fans any time soon (unless Curry goes on to win a FMVP in the future). Curry has yet to respond to Iguodala's sentiments.
