2021 NBA Draft Recap: Picks 1-60 and Draft Day Trades

The 2021 NBA draft is the 75th edition of the draft where National Basketball Association teams take turns selecting amateur United States college basketball players and other eligible players, including international players. It was held last night, July 29, 2021 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As expected the Detroit Pistons made Cade Cunnigham as the top pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Jalen Green went no. 2 to Houston Rockets. The Cleveland Cavaliers select Evan Mobley at no. 3 while Scottie Barnes and Jalen Suggs went no. 4 and 5, respectively.

Oklahoma City Thunder surprised everyone by picking Josh Giddey at no. 6. Golden State Warriors snatched Jonathan Kuminga at no. 7 and Moses Moody at no. 14. Franz Wagner was picked by the Magic at no. 8.

Sacramento Kings used their pick to draft Davion Mitchell at no. 9 while Memphis Grizzlies got a tall guard in Ziaire Williams at no. 10.


San Antonio Spurs shocked everybody by picking Joshua Primo at no. 12. Primo was expected to be picked late in the first round or early in the second round. Indiana Pacers had Chris Duarte at no. 13.

The Charlotte Hornets have been wheeling and dealing last night, picking James Bouknight at no. 11 and trading for Knicks 19th pick to get Kai Jones and getting Mason Plumlee and the 37th pick from the Detroit Pistons.

-The New Orleans Pelicans traded Steven Adams, Eric Bledsoe, the No. 10 pick, the No. 40 pick, and a protected 2022 first-round pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Jonas Valanciunas, the No. 17 pick, and the No. 51 pick.

-The Brooklyn Nets traded Landry Shamet to the Phoenix Suns for Jevon Carter and the No. 29 pick.

-The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Ricky Rubio, a 2022 second-round pick, and cash to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Taurean Prince.

-The Detroit Pistons traded Mason Plumlee and the No. 37 pick to the Charlotte Hornets for the No. 57 pick.

-The Washington Wizards traded Russell Westbrook and 2 future second-round picks to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 pick.
