Kyrie Irving's Comeback: Mavericks' Star Set for a Game-Changing Return After Injury
After missing Saturday's game against the Thunder, Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving seems set to return from his injury. Having dealt with right foot soreness, the former number 1 pick has reportedly participated in Monday's training session, with head coach Steve Kidd stating that he was 'fine'.
«Yeah, Kyrie was fine. Went through everything today,»
Irving Extension
Despite missing just one game due to his current aggravation, Kyrie's absence was felt as the Mavericks lost Saturday's matchup against the Thunder. While the Mavericks weren't completely dreadful and even managed to go on a 30-0 run at one point during the game, the 126-120 defeat might have gone the other way had their second-best player been available.
Irving is experiencing a much-improved season this year compared to his stint with Dallas last year. Although he hadn't been given a full season to prove his worth and faced calls from fans to be moved, the Mavericks showed faith in the former champion by signing him to a $120 million extension. This show of good faith has thus far proven to be the right decision, as Irving has averaged 23.6 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, significantly contributing to the Mavericks' tremendous start this season.
Kyrie Return
Given the gap until their next game on Wednesday, Kyrie will have an additional day to rest and, hopefully, recover fully for Dallas' match against the Utah Jazz. If not, Irving's return might be targeted for Friday's visit to Portland.
With the Mavs slipping down to 6th in the conference after their blistering hot start, Irving's return is needed more than ever. They aim to bounce back from their recent loss and regain momentum, solidifying their position among the top seeds.
